Ward Camp: Everything AND the Kitchen Sink
Ward Camp is a big deal here in Hawaii so we decided we'd give it a try! We borrowed almost everything we used and set up a beach front camp spot.
Sometimes we had a problem cooking our food. We thought more people would cook food at the camp, since that's what you do when you're camping, right? But we camped so close to home that everybody ran home or to the store every day to get their food. Whatever you do, don't ask Dave about the cooler.
Here's us eating some burgers that took like 30 minutes to cook on a disposable grill (not a good idea, btw).
We slept under our canopy on cots (you don't want to sleep on the ground in Hawaii). Each night we had a nice ocean breeze blow across us.
Camping in Hawaii is different because they go all out. People brought generators and we had movies every night and dances on 2 of the nights.
All of the families set up these giant tents/covers called Easy Corners and then they put their tents, camping chairs, food, tables, living rooms, carpets, ping pong tables etc. under the Easy Corner. (If you double click this picture you can enlarge it and get a better look.)
They even brought the kitchen sink!
We had a great time and feel like we got a good taste of real Hawaiian culture that cannot be found at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Here's some other interesting things about this camping experience: No fires, everybody went home every day to shower, we went to work in the mornings and back to camp for the evening, and on Sunday everybody woke up at camp in the morning, went home and got ready for church, then after church everybody went back to camp.

Look at you getting all cultured like that! That's too funny but sounds pretty darn fun nonetheless!!
THAT looks like so much fun! But I don't know how I would feel about going camping without a campfire. And btw, we bought those chairs, they are our camping chairs. Andrew wanted them so bad, and they were a little pricey, but the comfort they provide whilst camping makes it totally worth it.!
I think I could do that kind of camping! :)
very interesting! and now i'm dying to know about the cooler.
too many bugs, i.e. cockroaches on the floor?
