Happy Birthday Dave!

Dave celebrated the big 2-9 on Tuesday. We started our evening by buying car insurance.

Then we went to Ruby Tuesdays for dinner thanks to my parents. I ate my usual helping of Ruby Tuesday Crutons, which is the best reason to eat there... they are so so good!

Dave has been dying to have chocolate cake and chocolate frosting, so he got to work, found a recipe, bought the ingredients and made a cake! This is NOT from BOX! And the frosting is NOT from a CAN! We're talking 100% from scratch!
And it tasted amazing!

The lighting is terrible in this pic, but we thoroughly enjoyed 2 pieces each that night!

Day in the Life

Here is a typical weekday:

I wake up between 5 and 6am (depending on the day) and head to the gym on campus first thing in the morning. The gym here has crazy hours and if I don't go before class, then it's hard to go later in the day. When I come home from my work out, I jump in the shower, hair, make-up, find something to wear, get breakfast and pack a lunch all within an hour. (It's been hard for me to get ready quickly in my life, but I think I've got it down.)

Dave wakes up at 6:50 every morning, gets dressed and then eats a bowl of cereal while he watches a few minutes of the Today show. Around 7:15 he's putting on his work boots, ready to head out of the house at 7:20.

Often we both have to leave home at 7:20 because I have class at 7:30 and Dave's supposed to be at work at 7:30. So we walk across the street to campus together. Maybe once a week we end up driving (if we're behind schedule), but usually we walk because it's so close.

Dave's job in Motor pool at the PCC keeps him busy washing and vacuuming tour buses and checking fluids on PCC vehicles from 7:30-11:30 M-F. The PCC is open every day except Christmas, so he hardly ever gets any days off besides the weekend.

I usually teach a couple classes in the morning and then I head to my office to grade papers, make lesson plans and have office hours. Around 11:40 Dave comes to my office. This is about the same time that I start to feel really hungry so that's when I pull out my lunch. Usually I eat a yogurt, fruit, carrots, maybe a sandwich, maybe a bag of popcorn, crackers... nothing too spectacular. Occasionally Dave will eat lunch in my office with me. Whether he eats in my office or at home, he only eats leftovers. If there's no leftovers, he skips lunch... usually. While we eat I keep working at my computer and Dave reads a book that he keeps in my office, which is Chronicles of Narnia right now.

In the afternoon I'll teach one or two other classes and that's when Dave heads home. Dave often goes to the gym in the afternoon, then comes home and does his school work for his online classes. When I finish teaching (maybe around 2) I get ready for the next day's classes and then walk home. I usually leave my office around 4pm.

When I get home I almost always find Dave sitting at the desk doing his homework. The first thing I do when I get home is changing out of my dressy work clothes and put on a pair for shorts or jeans. I like to watch a little TV when I get home (shows like Clean House or Cash Cab usually catch my attention at that time of day).

We usually make dinner around 5 or 6. A lot of times we fix dinner and clean it up together... we're still newly weds, so we can do that! We eat a lot of chicken: Shake'n'Bake, BBQ, fajitas, lemon pepper chicken. We also frequently eat baked potatoes, tacos, spaghetti. Nothing too fancy, but filling. We used to eat a lot of Hamburger Helper, but I think we've passed through that phase. We don't go out to eat very often because, well, there's not many good places to eat out at in Laie.

When we're done with dinner it's usually about 7pm and we read scriptures together. Right now we're reading the Old Testament-Exodus. Then we hang out with each other doing whatever we want. It gets dark around 7pm so there's not a lot we can do outside by that time of the day. Sometimes we turn on a movie... maybe one of our Netflix or read books. Because I get up early, I don't usually make it up too late! If we watch a movie I almost always fall asleep during it.

So, we go to bed around 10 or 10:30. I almost always fall right asleep, even if I've slept through a movie!

There are a few variations during our week. If it's Wednesday, we do laundry. If it's Saturday, we fold laundry. If it's Thursday, I go to the Young Women activity and if it's the 4th Thursday of the month we BOTH go to the YW/YM combined activity at the church. And if it's Friday, Dave gets off work at least and hour earlier.

Our typical weekend is a story for another day!
